Loneliness can be hard to handle, especially when you have no one to talk to.

In a post-apocalyptic world, Cato has only one person to talk to: a young man named Joshua. As Cato talks to Joshua through voice recordings, he begins to feel happiness again. He starts to believe that life can shine a light onto those who are left in the dark.

As he listens closely to every word Joshua says, Cato relates to Joshua’s problem and gets attached to Joshua's experience until he stops responding.

This story was created in KUOW's RadioActive Intro to Journalism Workshop for 15- to 18-year-olds, with production support from Lila Shroff. Edited by Kyle Norris.
