Kim Malcolm talks with King County Councilmember Rod Dembowski about the county's plan to provide free bus passes to its lowest income residents.

On Tuesday, the King County council unanimously approved a measure to provide free bus passes to King County residents with incomes less than 80% of the federal poverty level -- about $21,000 for a family of four.

The county estimates that about 54,000 people would be eligible for the program, which will begin this summer.
