A City of Seattle team began closing down an unauthorized homeless camp along South Dearborn Street in Seattle Monday.

The move comes after a recent drug bust at the encampment. Four people were arrested last week at the camp and at a home in the area believed to be the base of drug operations.

More than 20 people remained living at the site as of Monday morning. All were being offered services and shelter.

It’s unlikely that everyone at the site will come inside.

KUOW’s Kate Walters speaks with host Kim Malcolm about why the camp is being removed and the city’s plans to prevent it from re-forming.
