Herbold Cuts Braddock Lead To 6 Votes In Seattle City Council District 1

A close margin in one Seattle City Council race just got razor thin. Lisa Herbold now trails Shannon Braddock in District 1 by a mere six votes.

Braddock now leads 11,528 votes to 11,522. She had led by about 7 percentage points on election night last Tuesday.

And we still have two weeks until results are certified on Nov. 24.

Shannon Braddock is still leading Lisa Herbold in the race to represent West Seattle's District 1 on the Seattle City Council, but her margin is now less than 100 votes.

Numbers released by elections officials at 4:30 p.m. Monday showed Braddock with 11,125 votes to 11,030 votes for Herbold.

In the other close race for the council, incumbent Bruce Harrell maintained his lead over Tammy Morales. He now leads by 401 votes, 8,520 to 8,119.

Two Seattle City Council races have tightened dramatically as ballots trickle in for counting since last Tuesday’s election.

A new unofficial count is expected to be released Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Incumbent Bruce Harrell still leads Tammy Morales in District 2, but his margin is fewer than 400 votes, or about 2 percentage points.

Morales trailed Harrell by about 10 percentage points in the first results Tuesday night. And in the primary, Morales had finished a distant second to Harrell, who got 62 percent of the vote. (Hear their debate in the related content below.)

The race in West Seattle’s District 1 is even closer. Shannon Braddock now has just a 104-vote lead over Lisa Herbold. Braddock had led by about 7 percentage points on election night. (Hear their debate in the related content below.)

But one incumbent is faring better. In the third district, Councilmember Kshama Sawant has expanded her lead over Pamela Banks. Sawant now leads 55 percent to 44 percent.

Final results won't be certified until Nov. 24.
