Juan Pablo Chiquiza
Social Media Strategist
About
Juan Pablo handles social media content, planning and scheduling at KUOW. He edits and manages a variety of original KUOW social content, including video. In fact, Juan is behind the station's pivot to video. As KUOW's live shows shifted online streaming during the pandemic, KUOW became a leader and guide for NPR as well as many NPR member stations. Juan also serves as the station's second-in-command photographer and reliably jumps into any situation with his expert skills, from breaking news events such as protests to live KUOW events such as Year in Review, podcast live events, and Town Hall meetings.
Prior to KUOW, Juan spent four years at "I can has cheezburger," creating their Spanish-oriented site, and during that time was able to accumulate 9.5 million followers on social media.
Juan has a degree in Social Communications and Journalism from Universidad de la Sabana in Bogotá, Colombia.
Juan also worked as a newspaper reporter in San Salvador, El Salvador, where he bore witness to terrible gang violence and sometimes became the target of violence himself. Juan grew up in Zipaquirá, Colombia, perhaps born to be a journalist. As a child, he would go door-to-door in his neighborhood simply to chat and ask people questions. Every person in the town knew Juan. He lived a few years in France before moving to the U.S. in 2006, and enjoys speaking French whenever he can. If you're French or from a French-speaking country, please find him at any live event and have a chat.
First and foremost, Juan identifies as "Papa." His two kids are five and eight.
