What will a contact tracer ask me?

Kim Steele-Peter does contact tracing for Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. She wants to know about your symptoms and who you've been in contact with.

Washington state is training people to do contact tracing to help limit the spread of Covid-19. Contact tracers call, text, email, or write a letter to people that have tested positive for Covid-19, to find out who else they've been in contact with. They also call people who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

Kim Steele-Peter is the Viral Hepatitis Coordinator at Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. She told us contact tracers will ask people questions like, "What are your symptoms like? Where do you work? Have you been to a hospital recently?"

Answering contact tracers' questions is voluntary, so Steele-Peter says it's important for contact tracers to build rapport with people as soon as they pick up the phone.
