Any hiker in the Pacific Northwest knows that The Enchantments is a bucket list item.

But it turns out that a lot of people have it on their list.

Which makes it nearly impossible to win the lottery for a camping permit, and people are trying to hike the 20-plus mile area in one day.

Nature writer Luke Whelan is here to tell us how that’s putting strain on the area’s ecosystem, and the people trying to keep it clean and safe.
