A limited number of venues across the country will show the film “The Interview” tomorrow. Ark Lodge Cinemas in Seattle’s Columbia City neighborhood is among them. Owner David McRae made the choice to run it.

“Normally, it’s not a film that I had ever even planned to show,” McRae said.

He said his theater usually shows either serious movies about war or family films like a Disney flick. That is, not a comedy romp about a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

But last week, one of McRae’s fellow independent theater operators lobbied the community to petition Sony to offer the film.

McRae joined. “I think it’s very important for artist and filmmakers like Seth Rogen to have their films out there, because I think there is an audience for them.”

Seattleite Laura Gray Fox is buying a ticket for its showing at McRae’s theater, but she says she's not going to go.

“I’ve heard some bad reviews but I would love Sony to have extreme success over this. In a way it’s a little, well I’ll just say it, middle finger to North Korea,” said Gray Fox.

The film's release was delayed after hackers attacked Sony and threatened violence towards people involved in showing the film. North Korea took responsibility for the computer hacks.

Wednesday afternoon Sony also released the film digitally. It's now online in a variety of places including YouTube and Google Play.

Additional production by Sara Lerner.
