KUOW Team Just Happened Upon This Moose In Alaska

Reporting in Alaska comes with special challenges: There are the vast distances, the fickle weather, the moose on the bicycle path …

The moose on the what?

That’s what a team reporting for KUOW and the Seattle Globalist found in Anchorage on the first day of a trip to document the experience of African immigrants doing grueling and sometimes dangerous work in canneries and on commercial fishing vessels in Alaska.

From Anchorage, the team is traveling to Cordova and Dutch Harbor to produce radio, text and video reports about changes in the fisheries workforce – the people who bring salmon and other fish to your plate. The radio and Web series is coming this fall.
