Ferries get a funding boost
The Washington State Ferry system connects people around Puget Sound. Tourists love it. Islanders depend on it. But staffing and vessel issues have plagued the service in recent years. Daily commuters are especially frustrated. They pay a premium for those crossings, and WSF has serious scheduling issues.
A recent boost in federal funding might help improve service, but to keep the system viable in the long run, millions of dollars will need to turn to billions. KUOW’s Casey Martin caught a boat to Bainbridge to bring us this update.
