Open field in Ballard/Fremont district
Seattle Councilmember Mike O'Brien announced Wednesday he is not running for re-election this fall.
"I'm really proud of what I've done. And I think one can make the case that when you add those up, that the city is a better place than it was ten years ago," he said at a press conference.
Still, O'Brien said it was obvious that more work needs to be done to address growing inequality and pointed to the rising number of homeless people in the area.
A vocal group of residents have criticized O'Brien partly for his support of a homeless encampment in Ballard and the failed head tax, among other things.
He's the fourth incumbent to not seek re-election.
