Why are African migrants fleeing to Yemen?

According to the United Nations, 97,000 migrants arrived in Yemen from the Horn of Africa last year in an increasing trend that is now called the “Eastern Migration Route.” The number of migrants arriving in Yemen annually has tripled between 2021 and 2023, despite the ongoing war in the country.

We speak to Tanja Pacifico from the International Organization for Migration about what’s driving this rise in migrants to Yemen.
