These six games will show what the Mariners are made of
As of Friday, the Seattle Mariners have the best record in all of Major League Baseball.
It's surprised sports analysts and players nationwide, since the team is in a "rebuilding" year with new players. The Mariners have won nearly every game in their first four weeks of the season.
Kate Preusser is the managing editor of Looking Landing, SB Nation's Mariners blog. She says nobody saw this coming.
"This is not really a sustainable pace, they're just crushing every offensive category," Preusser says. "The team wasn't predicted to be that good, but they also weren't predicted to be terrible, so basically what's happening is everyone is living up to the absolute best version of themselves."
Starting tonight, the Mariners play three games versus the Houston Astros, then three against the Cleveland Indians.
Preusser says these six games will be the toughest the team plays so far this year and will give a better read on what kind of team the Mariners really are.
"We're going to get a really good idea of what the team actually is during this home stand, now that they're facing some tougher competition," says Preusser.
To worried fans, she says: "I would not freak out if they' don't play very well against the Astros, the Astros are definitely the best team in the American League."
After that, Preusser is eager to see how the Cleveland series goes, as it could indicate the strength of the team.
Preusser says polling by SB Nation shows Mariners fans remain optimistic in the direction of the team.
