The Postman announces new location in Seattle's Central District
The Postman, a beloved Central District shipping and postal shop, is starting a new chapter after two tragic shootings.
Last year, co-owner D’Vonne Pickett Jr. was shot and killed outside of the establishment.
Then, nearly a year later, another shooting left the storefront window shattered.
After the most recent incident, owner KeAnna Rose Pickett announced the indefinite closure of the establishment. Days later, Pickett announced that the shop would reopen, and has since continued doing business.
Wednesday, from the corner of East Union and MLK Way, she addressed the future of The Postman.
“We're now standing in what's gonna be our new location,” Pickett said. “We have a much more spacious area, and a courtyard. Here at the new location, we'll continue to do the services that everybody's used to us providing for the community, as well as implementing new space for micro and small businesses to hold pop ups and do more community events within our space.”
The new location, which is around the corner from the current space, will face the portion of East Union Street recently re-named in honor of D'vonne Pickett Jr.
“It's full circle, it feels right, it feels in alignment,” KeAnna Rose Pickett said.
Before moving into the current location, Pickett said they looked at the space on East Union Street and thought it was great. Having the opportunity to move the business into this location now that it has been renamed after D’Vonne Pickett Jr. was “icing on the cake,” Pickett said.
The Postman will finish the holiday season in its current location, and open doors in its new space early next year.
