R is for resistance: The history of anti-racism movements
To mark the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Detroit rebellion, Seattle Public Library hosted a discussion of the factors that create inequality, repression and resistance.
Scott Kurashige is a professor of American and Ethnic Studies at the University of Washington, Bothell. He is the author of "The Fifty-Year Rebellion: How the U.S. Political Crisis Began in Detroit."
Michael Hardt is a professor of Literature and Romance Studies at Duke University. He is the author of "Assembly."
The two professors spoke at the Central Library on August 16. Nikkita Oliver opened the event with her poem “Just Us.” Sonya Harris recorded the discussion.
