PHOTOS: Cherry blossoms! In bloom! Check it out!
Crowds flocked to the Quad on the University of Washington campus on Friday to see the blossoming cherry trees.
The 29 cherry trees attract tons of tourists every year. They were planted before World War II in the Arboretum, but later moved to the Quad in 1962 to make way for Highway 520.
Originally, they were planted as a gift from the Mayor of Tokyo, in 1912, as a sign of friendship.
Another fun fact: The trees have been cloned and planted in parts of the campus. The younger clones usually bloom around the same time.
And yes, there’s a webcam if you want to follow the cherry trees’ progress.
