The soundtrack to your life could be a dirge, monotonous and dreary, or it could be a triumphant orchestra, setting you off on a heroic quest. Either way, the music you listen to can do more than set your mood — it can tell your story.

Martin O'Donnell is an accomplished local composer. He grew up in love with music and got his Master's in composition. Chances are you've heard his work, but not in concert halls. In the 80s Martin created memorable commercial jingles like "Flintstone Kids," and now he's legendary for his work in the video game series "Halo."

Martin shares how breakthroughs in video game music inspired him to leave behind jingles and create work that could accompany sweeping tales of sacrifice and epic journeys — or convey those feelings even if you never play a video game.
