You may be mired in your pre-Halloween preparations—costumes, pumpkin carving and stocking up on candy—but KUOW’s Arts and Culture reporter Marcie Sillman believes there’s also time to consume a little culture.

She offers these weekend treats for your consideration.

FRIDAY October 18

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art presents more than two dozen local artists in a group exhibition called “Face First.” Among participants, Neddy award winner Christopher Paul Jordan, and rising star Jessica Ry’cheal.

Seattle Art Museum opens “Flesh and Blood: Italian Masterpieces from the Capodimonte Museum,” 16th and 17th century artworks by such masters as Titian and Raphael.

Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience presents “Where Beauty Lies,” a look at the history, psychology and culture of beauty through an Asian Pacific Islander lens.

Velocity Dance Center presents Sean Dorsey Dance’s “Boys in Trouble,” an evening length performance that looks at contemporary masculinity and its intersections with race and class. Through Sunday, October 20.

SATURDAY October 19

Seattle Shakespeare Company presents “The Tempest,” at the Center House Theater in the Seattle Center Armory.

TUESDAY October 22

Seattle Public Library screens local filmmaker B.J. Bullert’s short documentary “Space Needle: a Hidden History.”
