Seattle-area cultural organizations are offering a wealth of activities this weekend to honor slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. Plus, new dance and theater offerings open up in the Seattle area.

MLK DAY-RELATED EVENTS
Langston Hugh Performing Arts Institute presents a pre-MLK day youth-oriented celebration Sunday, January 19, starting at noon.
Monday, January 20 MLK Day events:
- City of Tacoma offers an array of events, from a unity breakfast to a job fair.
- Seattleites can rally at Garfield High School then march to Westlake park to honor Dr. King.
- The Northwest African American Museum in Seattle’s Central Area will have free admission along with special programming for KING Day at NAAM.
DANCE
The Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas presents Showing Out: Black Choreographers (part 2), Jan. 17-18. Curated by Dani Tirrell.
Contemporary dance company Whim W’Him opens XPRESS, featuring world premieres from three choreographers: artistic director Olivier Wevers, Ihsan Rustem, and Sidra Bell.
THEATER
Seattle Theater Group presents the touring production of Bartlett Sher’s Fiddler on the Roof through Sunday, January 19.
In West Seattle, Arts West debuts The Revolutionists. Onstage through February 9.
Seattle Repertory Theatre starts preview performances of Sam Shephard’s True West Friday, January 17. Official opening is Wednesday January 22.
