KUOW at the RNC: Day 3 'Cruzing' with Washington state's delegates
Day three of the Republican National Convention was Ted Cruz's day. Washington state delegates showed up in force for a riverside appearance by the Texas senator, a favorite among our state's GOP delegates.
"Our party now has a nominee," Cruz said to a chorus of boos -- just as Donald Trump's jet passed by on the way to Cleveland's airport. "All right! That was pretty well orchestrated!"
(Hear a clip of that below.)
Cruz was also tapped to speak at the evenings festivities, with vice presidential nominee Mike Pence headlining.
State GOP chair Susan Hutchison told us that it's Trump who could finally flip Washington over to the red side for the first time in 30 years.
"Nothing succeeds like winning. And I think as people begin to see the polls change, no matter what their stance was originally, they're going to want to catch the Trump train," she said on KUOW's The Record.
