KUOW is restructuring its AM and PM drive time news teams to deliver more local news
A Note from Our Chief Content Officer
On April 4, KUOW announced it is restructuring its morning (5-9 a.m.) and afternoon (3-7 p.m.) drive-time staff with the goal of delivering more local news that meets our listeners’ high expectations.
This restructuring eliminates seven existing positions and creates seven new positions, all within the SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining unit. Together, these new roles represent an increased investment in our newsroom capabilities. We care deeply about the people affected by this decision and we have encouraged all impacted staff—Emily Fox, Kim Malcolm, Jamala Henderson, Lisa Brooks, Rob Wood, Stephen Gomes, and Tami Kosch—to apply for the new roles.
While KUOW continues to see gains in audience growth and loyalty, we also see audience expectations continue to evolve. We are making these changes to ensure we are in the best position to fulfill our mission as the Puget Sound region’s leading public radio station—to create and serve an informed public. This new structure will enable us to be more timely and responsive in our reporting. Once the restructuring is complete, you as a listener should expect to hear more, high-quality local news stories throughout the day.
We hope to continue to earn your trust under this new structure. We appreciate your support and thank you for listening.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Strachan
