Earlier this month, a notorious hacking group claimed to have hacked a company providing background checks, exposing about 2.9 billion personal records. Hackers also went after companies like AT&T and Ticketmaster. And much of that information has made its way to the dark web.

So what can we do to protect ourselves? We put that question to MSNBC chief economics correspondent Ali Velshi.
