Is the marketplace messing up social change?
You might want to hold off on that Cupcakes For Social Good business you were thinking of starting.
In his latest book, "Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World," author Anand Giridharadas challenges the idea that in order to have a thriving social change movement, a partnership with the marketplace must take place.
Giridharadas criticizes our current era, where the wealthy and powerful are seen as "saviors" in social change. He sheds light on the philanthropy of Amazon and other large corporations in the "social good" realm.
Giridharadas is an on-air political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC and a visiting scholar at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University. He spoke to a Seattle audience at Southside Commons on September 20.
