Hear it again: How Stephanie Land took on hunger and higher education
Parenting is hard. It’s exponentially harder when you’re struggling with poverty.
And as many people are experiencing these days, childcare and state-funded preschools are difficult to come by due to a lack of funds, space, and staffing. For parents hoping to better their lives by going to college, the pressure can be overwhelming. Getting to college and making it through is already hard. Try doing it while balancing finding childcare on a limited budget.
In this encore broadcast, Soundside guest host Diana Opong revisits a conversation with author Stephanie Land, who has written about her experience of going to college as a single mother, and the struggles she faced working towards her degree.
Land's second book is titled “Class, A Memoir of Motherhood, Hunger, and Higher Education.”
