Ep. 5: Are We Going to Be OK? Covid-19 adds another obstacle to traveling while Black

caption: From Burey: "I met Joe in Liwonde, Malawi on Saturday, February 7, 2015. I accidentally went to Green Bird Restaurant, owned by his sister, and asked for directions to Green Bird Bar (featured in photo). After I left the restaurant to start off on my way, Joe found me and walked with me around the market, as instructed by his mother. He told me this story over a beer. Joe is 42 years old and has one son who lives in Blantyre.

'For Colored Girls Who Travel' blogger Jodi-Ann Burey finds new adventures and old racism while rediscovering Seattle's wild spaces during the pandemic.

What does traveling while Black look like during this time of pandemic and protest? What can we learn about exploration and flexibility from a disruptor with a disability? How can we fall back in love with the Pacific Northwest after the lockdown has canceled all of our adventures plans for 2020?

In this hour, KUOW's Are We Going To Be OK? explores travel and resilience with equity advocate and cancer survivor Jodi-Ann Burey.

Jodi-Ann Burey is a speaker, writer, racial equity & healthcare entrepreneur and a diversity & inclusion consultant.
