Concerns about an all-out war in the Middle East continue to intensify

Israel sent more troops to its border with Lebanon on Tuesday as it expands its ground invasion into the country. Israel and Hezbollah also continued to trade heavy aerial attacks. Tensions in the region have been elevated since last October; shortly after Israel’s war with Hamas began in Gaza, Hezbollah also began striking Israel, which led to the displacement of tens of thousands of Israelis.

Israel has killed more than 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza, in response to the Hamas-led attack that killed more than 1,200 people in Israel. In Lebanon, Israel’s strikes have killed more than 2,000 people and displaced hundreds of thousands, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Host Scott Tong talks with Eyder Peralta, an international correspondent with NPR in Beirut.
