For many, summer road trips are a rite of passage — and a chance to visit weird roadside attractions and eat a lot of fast food.

But for a few Snohomish residents, their road trip came with a mission.

Drake Wilson and Lily Stephens Barnsby traveled across the country to examine the most recent wave of anti-LGBTQ legislation in several states, including Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Missouri, Tennessee, and Florida.

Along for parts of the journey were members of The Society of Lucky Mothers, a Snohomish-based advocacy group that supports the parents of LGBTQ+ youth.

Wilson and Stephens Barnsby chronicled their journey in the new docuseries, “The Queer Agenda: A Great American Roadtrip.” It's available to stream on YouTube.

Soundside host Libby Denkmann spoke to Wilson, Stephens Barnsby, and a member of The Society of Lucky Mothers about their journey through the U.S., and what they learned from the LGBTQ+ rights advocates they spoke to.
