KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle’s NPR news station. KUOW has an outstanding opportunity open for a Temporary On-Call Producer.

This role serves as fill-in producer for KUOW’s variety of on-demand and broadcast shows. Duties include booking, writing, pre-interviewing, audio production, scheduling, and participating in story meetings.

This is a Limited-Term, Hourly position and hours will vary. Must be able to work a varied schedule when required, including some evenings and weekends.

JOB SUCCESS SUMMARY

A successful Fill in Producer will thrive in a fast-paced, constantly-changing environment, have outstanding communication. This position will be a flexible role to support multiple shows and will be trained on their show’s individual needs. Will be able to move fluidly between shows to maintain our daily operations. Maintaining positive relationships internally within the different teams, managing time allocation, meeting deadlines, and communicating effectively between groups is imperative to this position.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Produce for KUOW’s digital and broadcast shows (60%)

• Back up staff producers

• Work closely with different show leads and teams to support show production.

• Monitor multiple sources for news; suggest stories for coverage.

• Mix and upload audio files.

Create original journalism (30%)

• Pitch and produce original stories for broadcast and podcast shows

• Create field recordings and conduct interviews.

• Write and update stories for online audience.

• Book guests, provide background research.

Other duties as assigned (10%)

• Provide production support for on-air fundraising drives.

• Support internal station initiatives.

• Full cycle reporting and journalistic ethics and current tools of the trade, while centering anti-racist practices.

• Strong writing, editing, and production for broadcast and digital.

• Sound design and audio storytelling.

• Journalism best practices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Two years of professional audio journalism experience.

• Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.

• Demonstrated commitment and accountability to Diversity and leadership with a racial equity and DEIABJ lens.

Working Conditions

• Duties may occasionally require evening and weekend work when necessary to meet critical deadlines, especially during election cycles.

• Ability to travel when necessary to meet with sources and to attend station events.

• Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.

• Position is suitable/eligible for Hybrid/Occasional Telework.
