Washington kids aren't getting their flu (and other) vaccines
According to the Washington State Department of Health, flu cases are on the rise.
Fewer kids are getting vaccinated for the flu in Washington State.
In fact, a CDC report from last year ranks Washington in the bottom third for children who've received the most recent flu vaccine.
That puts us well below the national average, which has also been on the decline.
Dr Elizabeth Meade says she's not surprised.
She's a pediatrician at Swedish here in Seattle, and she's working to reverse the decline.

Matt Martin is a podcast producer who has worked on many different show for KUOW. He pitched and created THE WILD with Chris Morgan, a rich and experiential podcast about ecology and conservation. Matt also produced the Seattle music history podcast Let the Kids Dance and the award-winning Ghost Herd. Before moving to the on-demand side of the station, Matt worked as a producer on The Record, KUOW's local news show. He has also worked as a general assignment reporter and host for public radio stations in upstate New York and rural Alaska. Paige Browning

Paige hosts midday newscasts and monitors news of significance to the Puget Sound region. She hopped over Washington’s mountains to join KUOW, after hosting news and reporting at Spokane Public Radio since 2011. She began her start in radio while a journalism student at University of Montana, by sharing stories with KUFM. Paige was raised in the mountains and rivers around Spokane. In her spare time she cheers on the Mariners in the summer, and hopes for snow in the winter.
