'They're not listening anymore.' Member of WA's government transparency committee steps down
Attorney Kathy George has resigned from the Washington State Legislature’s Sunshine Committee.
The committee’s role is to monitor the state government’s transparency laws.
George says that for the five years she’s been a member, she’s watched as lawmakers have spun their wheels — unable to get legislation introduced, let alone passed.
This comes as the legislature has come under more criticism over its transparency. In January a lawsuit was filed challenging the legislature’s use of “legislative privilege” to withhold public records.
We should mention, for our own transparency, that George is the sister of KUOW editor Christy George. Christy did not contribute to this interview.
