Your Zip Code Could Predict How Long You Live

Washingtonians born between 2012 and 2014 are expected to live, on average, to 80 years old.

But where you live in Washington state could indicate if you reach this ripe age.

According to new state data, people living in the 19

legislative district, south of the Olympic Peninsula, are expected to reach 76.1 years.

This is according to new data from the Washington State Office of Financial Management. A report from that office examined legislative districts in Washington state and found variations in life expectancy.

The report doesn’t offer explanations behind the disparities.

Those in legislative districts including Tacoma and Spokane are also predicted to reach 76 years and change, short of the state average.

Toddlers living in the legislative districts around Lake Washington – that’s Seattle and the Eastside – are predicted to live, on average, to roughly 84 years. Those in Island and San Juan counties also have higher life expectancies.

The report’s health assessment was based on the 10 leading causes of death between 2012 and 2014. Those causes include cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Based on those assessments, the report ranked life expectancy by legislative district.

The districts with the worst life expectancy rates were a mix of urban and rural areas. They include the 19th, south of the Olympic Peninsula, and districts near Tacoma and Spokane.
