The end is nigh. The rain has come, and the slush is high

Cold drops of rain started to fall on Tuesday morning and by midday the city had turned into gray mashed potatoes.

Temperatures finally tipped away from freezing, moving toward 39 degrees Fahrenheit.

Rain showers had started the day mixed with some snow but became rain after 11 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Seattle area and warned that the roads could be hazardous and would definitely be a “slushy mess.”

The forecast shows a bit more snow on Wednesday and maybe Thursday — a quarter of an inch to an inch.

Seattle Public Schools was closed Tuesday.
