Take a look inside Amazon's Spheres

On Monday, Amazon officially opened The Spheres, the newest addition to the company’s downtown campus. Inside, there are over 40,000 plants from all over the world.

“Amazon, as you may remember, started off with desks made from little doors,” said King County Executive Dow Constantine at the opening. “Now, the employees will be able to come here and meet between the ferns."

The biospheres are home to more than 400 different species of plants spanning five continents and 50 countries.

In addition to the plants, there are treehouse meeting rooms, river and waterfall features, 40-foot trees and a four-story living wall.

"We want this to be a place where our employees come and enjoy themselves and get away from the typical office space," said John Schoettler, vice president of global real estate for Amazon.

"Many of those plants are endangered in the natural environment. It's been very intentionally and very carefully curated and we're really proud of what our horticulturalists have brought together," he said.
