KUOW’s Phyllis Fletcher has accepted the role as the new managing editor of Northwest News Network (N3).

In this role, Phyllis will be responsible for overseeing and editing the work of N3’s reporting staff, identifying opportunities for collaborative news projects among partner stations, and facilitating the sharing of content between stations and newsrooms.

“I’ve been a fan of the Northwest News Network for a decade,” Fletcher said. “The N3 reporters are the best in the West. I feel very lucky to get to support them and public radio listeners throughout Idaho, Oregon and Washington.”

The Northwest News Network is a collaboration of public radio stations in Washington, Oregon and Idaho that provides comprehensive coverage of regional news issues and helps stations share and collaborate.

Partner stations include Boise State Public Radio, Jefferson Public Radio, KCUW, KLCC, KMUN, KPLU, KSVR, KUOW, KWSO, Northwest Public Radio, Oregon Public Broadcasting and Spokane Public Radio.

Fletcher started at KUOW in 2004 as a weekend host and reporter. From there she progressed in roles of increasing responsibility including KUOW's first-ever beat reporter (her beat was education) and most recently as editor.

Fletcher has earned academic credentials in demography, computer programming and accounting fraud detection. Fletcher’s honors include a national Edward R. Murrow Award, a Gracie Award, a UNITY Award, a first prize in beat reporting from the Education Writers Association, and a fellowship on the national desk at NPR.

Phyllis will start her new position as managing editor of N3 on August 1 and will continue to work from the KUOW studios located in Seattle, Wash.

KUOW is the Puget Sound region’s public radio station for local, regional, national and international news, information and cultural programming, serving listeners in Seattle and Western Washington at 94.9FM; 90.3FM KQOW in Bellingham, and 1340AM in Olympia. KUOW 94.9 and KUOW2 are streamed live online at kuow.org.

The mission of KUOW is to create and serve an informed public, one challenged and invigorated by an understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and cultures. The station is licensed to the University of Washington, which is assisted in its operation and management by KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio, a private, nonprofit corporation established in 1999 and governed by a community board.
