Seattle's longtime U.S. Representative Jim McDermott will retire this year – and another Jim McDermott wants to take his place.

James Joseph McDermott, who goes by Joe, announced Wednesday he's running for Washington's 7th Congressional District.

He's NOT related to the sitting congressman.

Joe McDermott becomes the third Democrat to enter the race. He is a King County Council member, and served for 10 years as a state representative.

If elected to Congress, Joe McDermott says he'll work on taking dark money and corporate money out of politics.

State Rep. Brady Walkinshaw is also running. He represents Seattle’s 43rd district and says he would fight for transit and education funding.

There's also a businessman in the race - Jeff Stilwell owns MaJe art gallery in Edmonds. Stilwell says he would make education funding and the gender-wage gap his priorities.

They will face off in the August primary election.

The seat represents most of Seattle, and suburbs to the north and south.
