Sally Field in Seattle: 'Democracy is messy'

Actress Sally Field has amassed a colorful assortment of characters over her decades-long career: the Flying Nun, Mary Todd Lincoln and most recently a role in Netflix' new series Maniac.

In her debut memoir, "In Pieces", she brings readers into an intimate view of her life.

Field sheds light on past traumas and the process of finding her voice by assembling the fragmented pieces of her past. She also shares with a Seattle audience how playing larger-than-life characters in film and television has also kept her grounded.

Field is a two-time Academy-Award-winning actress. In 2015 she was honored by President Obama with the National Medal of Arts.

The event took place October 1 at the University Temple United Methodist Church. Seattle Times columnist Nicole Brodeur moderated the conversation. This event was presented by UW Bookstore.
