KUOW awarded 8th consecutive 4-star rating from Charity Navigator
September 5, 2019
For the eighth consecutive year, KUOW has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation's largest independent charity evaluator and leading donor advocate. This is Charity Navigator's highest possible rating and demonstrates that KUOW exceeds the industry standards in financial efficiency, transparency and accountability.
"KUOW’s exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public," said Michael Thatcher, President & CEO of Charity Navigator. According to Charity Navigator, only 4 percent of charities evaluated have received at least 8 consecutive four-star ratings.
"We’re so pleased to receive Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for the eighth consecutive year. KUOW takes our responsibility as stewards of the funds that are entrusted to us from our community seriously," said Karyn Andriesen, KUOW's Director of Development. "We value organizations such as Charity Navigator, who provide resources to help individuals make informed decisions regarding their non-profit contributions. This kind of accountability ensures that services remain robust, which only help to make our local communities stronger."
Last year, KUOW had more than 47,000 individual donors, including nearly 8,000 first time contributors. Their contributions, along with that of KUOW's business supporters, make up 92 percent of KUOW's annual revenue – making it possible for us to produce essential local programming, innovative podcasts, and community events in service of our mission to create and serve a more informed public.
