Curiosity Club
A KUOW supper club for inquisitive humans
KUOW is curating a cohort of ten inquisitive humans for a three-month experiment to explore the idea that surprising stories and great food can transform a group of strangers into a community. We’re looking for folks who are eager to connect with people who are different than the ones they usually engage with.
Curiosity Club members will be invited to The Cloud Room on Capitol Hill for three dinners. Our conversation will be fueled by some of KUOW's most interesting stories and locally-sourced, organic fare from Plum Bistro. These dinners will be held once a month on third Thursdays from January through March 2019. Applicants who are able to attend all three dinners will receive priority consideration.
It's like a bookless book club. Or a nerdy supper club. (Or what Jenny said.)
Apply using our online form. The application deadline is Friday, November 2 at 5 p.m. We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis.
When: 7 p.m. on January 17, February 21, March 21, 2019
Where: The Cloud Room on Capitol Hill.
What about the food?
Dinners will be provided by Plum Bistro. From Zagat: “Artful upscale dishes take vegan cuisine to its greatest potential, and can even impress a carnivore at chef-owner Makini Howell’s Capitol Hill bistro. With an airy atmosphere of chic sophistication and fine service, it’s the spot for a classy date.”
How much does this cost?
Nothing. There is no cost for selected Curiosity Club members. Dinners are included.
How does this work?
One month before each dinner, club members will be notified which 3-5 pieces of multimedia KUOW content will inspire the next conversation. For example, one dinner might explore a photo essay, a podcast episode, an article, and a video of an interview. Club members can prepare for the dinner by checking out all of the assigned content or doing a deep dive into one or two of the pieces.
The dinners will be delicious and the discussion will be informal. KUOW’s Community Engagement Producer Kristin Leong will facilitate.
At the end of each dinner, club members will be invited to share questions and story ideas with our reporters and brainstorm collaboration ideas with our Community Engagement team.
Who will be there?
In addition to our curious cohort of club members, the KUOW reporters who created the content will be invited to join us.
Who should apply?
Club members will be selected with the aim of building an engaged cohort of folks who reflect the diverse perspectives and experiences of our surrounding community. People of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and inquisitive omniverts are encouraged to apply. Introverts will be warmly welcomed. Applicants who are able to attend all three dinners will receive priority consideration. Applicants must be 21 or older.
