Why this psychologist is bullish on human progress

As crazy as the world seems sometimes, author Steven Pinker argues our ancestors would most certainly envy us. From life expectancy and standards of health to general prosperity, peace and happiness, he argues we’re better off than they were — and don’t get him started on anesthesia.

Pinker is a cognitive psychologist and so-called public intellectual. He teaches in the department of psychology at Harvard University. His latest book is “Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress.”

This event, presented by University Book Store, took place on March 16 at University Temple United Methodist Church. Jennie Cecil Moore recorded the talk.
