Seattle author Claire Dederer's midlife reckoning

Author Claire Dederer was 44-years-old and living a successful life — literary accomplishment, comfortable marriage, family and home — when something caught up to her.

Periodic ruminations about her teen self—“a disastrous pirate slut of a girl”—in conjunction with a kiss from a man not her husband triggered a wave of reflection and writing about the person she once was and became. The result is her memoir “Love and Trouble: A Midlife Reckoning.”

Dederer grew up in Seattle and still lives in the area. She became a best-selling author in 2010 when she published her first book, “Poser: My Life in Twenty-Three Yoga Poses.” She spoke with KEXP DJ Cheryl Waters on May 12 at Town Hall Seattle. Sonya Harris recorded their talk.
