The Power Of Language In Deciphering 'Difference'

Among a long list of achievements, University of Washington professor Ralina Joseph co-founded the group WIRED (Women Investigating Race, Ethnicity, and Difference.)

The meaning and importance of the term "difference" is the focus of her recent lecture “What’s The Difference With ‘Difference?’”

Her talk was hosted by the graduate school at UW, in partnership with the UW Alumni Association.

It’s part of the “Equity and Difference: Keeping the Conversation Going” public lecture series. The goal of the series is to present speakers “who are working to open our eyes to the consequences of prejudice, and seeking solutions for change.”

Joseph is an associate professor in UW’s Department of Communication, and the founding director of the Center for Communication, Difference, and Equity. This talk took place at UW’s Kane Hall on Jan. 14.
