KUOW announces new programs coming to Saturday schedule

Beginning Saturday, October 1, KUOW will begin airing two new shows in their permanent time slots: The New Yorker Radio Hour at 3 p.m., followed by Freakonomics Radio at 4 p.m.

This two hour time slot was previously home to one of two broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion that aired during KUOW’s weekend schedule. The second, airing Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon, will remain on the schedule with new APHC host Chris Thile making his debut on Sunday, October 16.

KUOW’s two broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion have been a mainstay of the weekend schedule, but the retirement of host Garrison Keillor presented a unique opportunity to pilot some new shows on air and solicit feedback from listeners.

Over the 12 week pilot period that began in July, the most enthusiastic response received was for both The New Yorker Radio Hour and Freakonomics Radio, which helped determine the new Saturday schedule.

KUOW will continue to evaluate new programs for the weekend schedule, and listeners can expect to see a change again in fall of 2017 when NPR ends The Best of Car Talk.

KUOW will broadcast APHC re-runs with Garrison Keillor on October 2 and 9, leading up to new host Chris Thile’s debut the following Sunday. You can view the full broadcast schedule on the KUOW website.

Listeners are encouraged to submit feedback on these programming changes to programming@kuow.org.
