KUOW announces new PM drive-time news team
From Jennifer Strachan, Chief Content Officer
KUOW is pleased to announce Kim Malcolm has been promoted to Afternoon News Host, an expanded role which will be responsible for analysis and leadership, as well as the overall sound and presentation of the show. Kim joined KUOW in 2013 as a fill-in newscaster and has alternatively hosted KUOW’s morning and afternoon news programs. Throughout the search process, Kim proved she is the ideal person to take on this expanded role and work with the team to evolve our PM drive-time show.
The afternoon team will also include Andy Hurst, who has been promoted to Afternoon Senior News Producer. Andy will provide editorial oversight, work in tandem with our Afternoon News Host to deliver the daily news and spearhead completely new segments. Andy joined KUOW in 2006 and served as producer for both The Record, Weekday, and The Conversation. We’re thrilled to see him add his ideas, passion and experience to our afternoon programming and grow it in powerful new ways. After 12 years with KUOW, Liz Jones has been promoted to Editor for the PM drive-time team. During her KUOW tenure, Liz has won number awards including two Gracies, multiple regional Murrow awards, and PRNDI and RTNDA awards.
Tami Kosch will be the team's Board Operator, managing the technical execution of the show. Before KUOW, she worked for 17 years in Seattle commercial radio. She was a music DJ for KZOK The Classic Rock Station, KMPS country music and KLSY adult contemporary. She gave traffic reports for many stations in town including KZOK, KMPS, AM1090, KIXI, KLSY, KMTT, The Buzz, KUOW, KPLU and others. Finally, we are pleased to announce Casey Martin has been promoted to Morning Reporter. Casey joined KUOW in 2015 as an Announcer. During his time here, he has proven to be a compelling storyteller and journalist.
We are in the process of finalizing our AM Drive time news team and will make an announcement as soon as possible who our new Morning News Host and Morning Senior Producer will be. KUOW’s mission is to create and serve a more informed public, and with these changes, listeners should expect to hear timelier, high-quality local content throughout the day. The new teams will start on July 3.
