Hackers Claiming to Be ISIS Target South Sound Magazine

South Sound Magazine is among several businesses across the country whose websites were hacked over the weekend by a group claiming to be the Islamic State, also known as ISIS.

NBC News reported that investigators were skeptical that ISIS was behind the attack, believing the hackers just claimed the affiliation to gain more attention.

On Saturday, the Tacoma-based magazine's normal website was replaced with an all-black background and a message beginning, "HACKED BY ISLAMIC STATE."

Publisher Josh Dunn says South Sound is a lifestyle magazine, covering things like fashion and food.

"It's clearly not a magazine that one would consider a target for this kind of attack," he said. "Because of this situation, we've encouraged many individuals and other small businesses to review their technology and security policies as soon as possible."

The FBI is investigating. Agents in Seattle said in a statement that they're working to identify other businesses that may have been hit locally.
