Traffic for miles and 6 stuck elevators this Saturday morning

A downed power line wreaked havoc on north Seattle traffic on Saturday morning – resulting in major backups on Interstate 5 at Northeast 130th Street.

A pole with live wires came crashing down on a car after 8 a.m., likely causing a rollover accident. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Seattle Police.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, two SUVs were stuck in a “hot zone” between the wires on the interstate.

“Once power is cut, Seattle Fire will access people in cars with minor injuries,” said a tweet from Trooper Rick Johnson.

Both directions of I-5 opened around 10:45 a.m. Traffic had extended up to the county line.

Meanwhile, firefighters responded to six stuck-in-elevator calls – some in north Seattle near the traffic jam, and some downtown. It was unclear if those downtown were related to the downed power lines.

More than 2,000 homes were without power in the Bitter Lake neighborhood for about two hours. Power was still out for 182 people on Saturday morning. Seattle City Light said it expected power to return for those customers around 6 p.m.
