To help in this mission, KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for an Immigration Reporter. Reporting to a KUOW Editor, the Immigration Reporter reports and produces immigration pieces for broadcast and web. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Identify and craft deeply reported audio and digital feature-length stories and news spots on the immigration beat. 50% 

• Present and discuss reporting on KUOW newscasts and talk shows. 25% 

• Actively engage with social media and source networks as a reporting and distribution tool. 10% 

• Work closely with editors and content producers in creating plans that articulate a vision and strategy for coverage of a beat. 15% 

Requirements: 

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field and three years of professional journalism experience. 

• Background in news writing, radio production, and audio editing software. 

• Track record of producing stories with impact. 

• Self-starter with proven ability to meet deadlines and check facts. 

• Impeccable journalistic integrity and editorial judgment. 

• Ability to manage several projects concurrently. 

• Record of filing stories with NPR or other national radio producers. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

• Ability to professionally represent the station. 

• Familiarity with and appreciation for public radio style programming. 

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. 

Desired: 

• Spanish language proficiency. 

• Public radio experience.
