Restaurateur Eddie Huang Talks About Funky Food

Eddie Huang stormed through childhood. He fought bigoted kids, defied stereotypes of the "model minority" and partied hard. But he clung to the delights of  his father’s restaurant and the flavors of his mother’s kitchen. Following a stint as a lawyer and a stand-up comic, he returned to his raucous roots, dipped in the flavors of Taiwan, America and the world.

Eddie Huang joins us for a conversation about the first-generation immigrant experience he writes about in his new memoir, “Fresh Off the Boat.”

Lil’ Jon Restaurant and Lounge in Bellevue’s Eastgate neighborhood is serving its classic American diner fare again — and the many regulars who filled the place opening day couldn’t be happier.

“I enjoy being here. It’s everybody knows your name, just like Cheers,” Sharon Aboe said. “It’s good food and good people.” She started coming to Lil’ Jon 20 years ago and was glad to take her seat again at the counter.

An initiative to raise the minimum wage in the City of SeaTac will appear on the November ballot. A ruling Friday from a state appeals court cleared the path for the measure to move forward.

SeaTac’s Prop 1 initiative aims to set a minimum wage at $15 an hour for many workers at and around the airport, like baggage handlers and hotel staff.

One of the oldest restaurants in the University District is closing its doors on Sunday. The Continental Greek Restaurant and Pastry Shop has been a fixture on “The Ave” since 1967. It’s a family business.  As news of the closure spread, 40 years’ worth of regular customers have been filling the sky blue dining tables, eating their favorite dishes one last time.
