Zombies are Everywhere

Zombies have been rotting and staggering around our pop culture and legends for decades. Walking corpses without a human soul, lusting for flesh. They are unrelenting. Survivors kill them in bloody, dramatic ways — and still the hordes keep coming. Why do we like zombies so much? Beyond the horror movies they star in, and the creative make–up they have inspired, what is it about these creatures keeps them "alive" in the stories we tell? Love the zombie? Tell us why.

Robert Horton and Mark Rahner are co–hosting the "Red, White and Dead Zombie Party" this Friday, July 3 as part of the Fremont Outdoor Movies. As part of the event, there will be a Guinness World Record attempt at the largest Zombie walk of all time. Guinness Registration is from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at 3501 Phinney Ave North. The walk starts at 8:00 p.m. The movie "Shaun of the Dead" starts at 9:45 p.m. Other activities include a Zombie Fashion Show, Thriller Dance Off and a Zombie Workshop.

Robert Horton is a Seattle film critic who writes for The Herald in Everett, WA and Film Comment magazine. He also regularly talks about movies on KUOW and The Seattle Channel. He runs a lecture–discussion series on film for the Frye Art Museum and writes a blog called The Crop Duster.

Mark Rahner is a veteran critic, interviewer and pop culture writer at The Seattle Times. His comic book work includes "Galveston" and "Cthulhu Tales."

Robert Horton and Mark Rahner are the co–creators of the new comic books series "Rotten."

Max Brooks is author of "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z."

Cleo Zombie and Eric the Zombie Bum are with the Seattle Zombie Walk Association. They are also judging the Zombie Fashion Show in Fremont tomorrow.
