Beautiful Math and Fantastic Reality

Megan Sukys/Dave Beck
06/01/2007

Math has to be seen to be believed. Next time on The Beat, Seattle mathematician and artist Lun-Yi Tsai shares artistic images that prove you may understand math better than you think. Plus, we discover the fairy within each of us and survey the SIFF scene.

At 2:07 p.m. - Seeing Math
Math has to be seen to be believed. The complicated abstract concepts of higher math make much more sense when they are transformed into pictures. Seattle artist and mathematician Lun-Yi Tsai brings the two subjects together in his latest exhibition, "DEMONSTRATIONS". Today, he shares artistic images that prove you may understand math better than you think.

Changelings don't just exist in fairy tales. We all go through a transformation from childhood to adulthood. Keith Donahue combines the myth of the changeling and the modern dilemma of personal identity in his novel The Stolen Child. In this archived conversation from November 29th, 2006, he tells us how his story combines fairy tales with the very real story of growing up.
