Biking in Seattle

06/22/2006 at 10:00 a.m.

Bikes are a favorite mode of transportation in Seattle. Even the rain doesn't seem stop people and, naturally, during the summer, more people switch to bikes. The reasons are various. Some people ride to work, some people work while biking. Others are exercising or performing in a parade. Higher gas prices are an extra motivation this year. How fun and how safe is riding a bike around the city? We will hear experiences and advice from bikers in the next hour, but we also want to hear your stories about riding on your own two wheels.

Guests:
David Hiller is Advocacy Director for the Cascade Bicycle Club. He is co-author of Deadly by Design and has worked as a consultant on transportation and air-quality.
Charles Wright runs Wright Brothers in Freemont. The bike shop features a co-op workshop space and three levels of bike repair classes.
David Smith is a Seattle bicyclist instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists trying to change people's attitudes about biking. He spends much time showing cyclists how to ride safer.
